This is an encaustic work by Carol Padberg, one of a series exploring typographic fragments. She writes on the site for artists 20x200:
During the last five years I have made work based on modernist fonts. Using the “modernist DNA” of typography fonts such as Bauhaus, Futura and Helvetica, I create visual improvisations. I use fragments of found typography to take apart and put back together language.
I love this work. First, I love type; second, I have an ongoing fascination with the play of light and shadow at the edges and corners of things, such as the corner of a room ceiling. This work seems to create such interior “spaces,” but in a non-obvious way. You can see this work and others in the series at her website.
